Dreher Island State Park - Lake Murray

Dreher Island State Park is one of the main attractions for visitors to the Lake Murray area. The park offers numerous outdoor recreational activities. The 348 acre South Carolina State Park offers lake front camping, lakeside rental villas, excellent fishing, picnic shelters, playgrounds for the kids, boat ramp access to Lake Murray, hiking trails, nature and bird watching and more. Park admission is $2 for adults and $1.25 South Carolina seniors. Children age 15 and under are admitted free.

Camping

There are 2 large campgrounds located at Dreher Island State Park. These lakefront campgrounds feature scenic views and easy access to Lake Murray. 97 paved campsites are available for RV and tent camping. These campsites include picnic table, water and electrical hookups. In addition to the paved campsites there are 15 designated tent only sites. A primitive group tent sites is also available. The group site has a central water location and picnic tables. Campground amenities include hot showers, restrooms, and a dump station. Standard campsites rates range from $23 to $26 per night. Lodging

Dreher Island State Park has 5 rental Villas. These villas provide a great option for a comfortable overnight stay at Lake Murray. Two and Three bedroom villas are available for rent. The villa amenities include color TV, microwave, cooking and eating utensils, linens, heat, air conditioning, coffee maker, outdoor grills and picnic tables. The two bedroom 2 bath villas can house up to 4 people and the three bedroom can accommodate 6 people. The three bedroom villa is user friendly for the physically impaired. Boating and Fishing

The Dreher Island area has some of the best stripper and large mouth bass fishing available on Lake Murray. The park has three boat launch ramps for easy access to to the lake. A gas dock is available for in water refueling. There are three Wi-Fi enabled fish tournament shelters located at the park. With it's multiple launch ramps and tournament shelters, Dreher Island State Park is a great place to host a Lake Murray Fishing tournament. Tournament shelters can be reserved by contacting the Dreher Island State Park office. Fishing is permitted from the banks of the lake through-out the park. Picnic Shelters

If you would like to host a large gathering at Lake Murray, the state park has 12 picnic shelters. The shelters can accommodate up to 30 people. Picnic shelters can be reserved for $52-$82 per day and reservations are recommended. If a shelter is not reserved it is available on a first come first served basis. More Activities

In addition to camping and boating, the Dreher Island State Park has hiking and biking trails that offer a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Murray. Bird watchers can view purple martins from the months of June - August. The park also has a playground for the kids.
